STROUD — The Olive boys golf team battled a deep field and challenging conditions to place 10th at the Stroud Route 66 Tournament held at Stroud Municipal Golf Course.
Sophomore River Stonecipher led the Wildcats with a 28th-place finish, carding a 95. He put together a steady front nine with a 46 and followed with a 49 on the back, highlighted by consistent mid-round scoring to anchor Olive’s effort.
Sophomore Preston Ray and junior Timothy Cotton each finished tied for 63rd with rounds of 117. Ray opened with a 55 on the front nine and shot 62 on the back, while Cotton posted a 58 on the front and a 59 on the back, each navigating a tough course with several high-scoring holes.
Senior Tyler Conley showed flashes late in his round before recording a DNF, including scores of 8, 7 and 8 across part of the front nine and an up-and-down back nine that featured a low of 4 along with a 10 on hole 15.
Sophomore Gavin Nickell also recorded a DNF but turned in a nearly complete back nine, shooting a 56 with steady play that included multiple 5s and a 6. Wildcats next tee off at the Bristow Golf Tournament April 6 at 9 a.m.
