Three Prue runners close seasons at Class A state championships

MIDWEST CITY — Three Prue High School athletes represented the Rockets at the OSSAA Class A State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City.

Seniors Leah Willcox and Jordan Hendrix joined sophomore Kiara Hernandez at the championship meet, bringing Prue's 2026 cross country season to a close.

Willcox led Prue's girls in the 3,200-meter race, finishing 62nd with a time of 14 minutes, 22.56 seconds.

The senior competed in a field of 119 runners, finishing just outside the top half of the Class A championship.

Sophomore Kiara Hernandez also represented the Lady Rockets, placing 118th in 18:30.62.

The state championship provided Hernandez with an opportunity to compete against the state's top Class A runners and gain experience she can carry into future seasons.

In the boys 5-kilometer championship, senior Jordan Hendrix finished 64th with a time of 18:34.07. Hendrix completed the demanding 3.1-mile distance against a statewide field of Class A competitors.

For Willcox and Hendrix, Saturday's races marked the conclusion of their senior cross country seasons. Hernandez, meanwhile, will have two more high school seasons to build on her state championship experience.

The Rockets' three individual appearances at state capped their 2026 season with representation in both the boys and girls championships.
