Tornadoes improve but get beat by No. 3 Garber 48-22

Okay… I know we are 0-2 now… but we were 0-2 last year and won eight out of the last ten games.

As much as I hate to admit it, this Garber team is good. They’re not like the team they were last year when Carson Bishop wast hurt.

We lost 48-22.

But the fi rst 12 minutes we stunned them, it was 14-14.

Cordae McCormick scored on a 31 yard run, Garret Wright scored the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 Drumright.

But the Garber o ense was having no di culty with the Drumright defense as they scored in three plays. The Drumright o ense went back to work, Aiden Lumpkins had a 31 yard run and Krypton Ward caught a 20 yard pass from Garrett Wright to make it 14-8 Drumright.

Garber o ense scored in two plays this time. On a run from 52 yards out, but Anthony Fisher and Chase Creekmore stopped the two-point conversion.

'We told the kids that they played a lot better than we did in week zero,” said Tornado head coach Chris Elerick.

But the second quarter, and the third quarter were a nightmare as Garber quarterback threw touchdown passes of 62, 55, 85, and 35 yards. Their running back also had an 88 yard touchdown run.

They had great balance on the run and pass. At the end of the fi rst quarter we had 123 total yards to Garber's 97.

Late in the game, backup quarterback Keagan Ward had 20 yards on two runs, then threw a 33 yard touchdown pass to Cordae McCormick for McCormick’s second touchdown of the game.

There were some good moments on defense, we stopped several of their two-point conversions.

Max Gray and Keagan Ward both stopped a conversion, and another one was stopped but I’m not sure who had the tackle.

Aiden Lumpkins had nine tackles, Conrad Reed had 2, Keagan Ward had 5, Max Grey 3, Carson Mattox 3, Howdy Right 2, Sammy Blackburn 1, and McCormick 2.

Fisher had a sack of -11 yards. I also think Chase Creekmore had 5 tackles, he crushed a Garber quarterback like a bug. Grey also had an impressive tackle. I also believe Krypton Ward had a tackle.

Garrett Wright had 25 yards on 11 carries, Lumpkins had 38 yards on 7 carries, McCormick had 21 yards on four carries, Reed had37 yards receiving on three catches, McCormick 33 yards and a touchdown, Krypton Ward had 20 yards and a touchdown.

Garrett Wright kicked one to the end zone on a kicko .

Also Kamari Louis played hard. Our coaches Chris Elerick, Scott Hollabaugh, and Moses Williams do a great job and I think things will get better.

This week we play at home against 2-0 Quinton. “Quinton is a lot better than last year, and have a physical quarterback,” said Elerick. “We played bad defense against Garber.”

We are home against Quinton at 7 p.m. Friday. In fact, the next two games are home. The fourth game of the season against Canton is Homecoming.
