In the Bible, young shepherd boy David fought the giant Goliath and killed him. Well there was no bloodshed in this battle. The varsity boys tallest player might be 6’2”. The alumni had 6’9” Steven “Speedy” Hall, 6’7” Jaxon Bolton, 6’5” Jesse Tharp, 6’3” Jonathan Chavez, 6’3” Travain Hall.
The varsity trailed 49-39 late in the game when freshman Gunnar Wright and junior Sammy Blackburn started hitting threes.
Gunnar Wright finished with 16 points, Blackburn 14, Keaton Jensen had 16 all twos.
Caleb Sloan hit a 3 and finished with 7, Zaiden “Blue” Stewart 6, Abel Robbins hit a 3, Kypton Ward and Rhett Cearley both had 2 points.
Others playing for the varsity boys were Austin Tull, Jay Weleh, Devin Rhinehart, and Tyler Carter.
The alumni looked like they might have more blocked shots than points. They had at least 10, having a huge height advantage.
I almost forgot alumni player Tyler McFarland is 6’5”, he also blocked a shot and finished with 2 points. Bolton had 17 points and blocked several shots, as did Steven “Speedy” Hall, Jesse Tharp, and Chavez.
Rhett Cearley had quite a few blocked shots for the varsity, he is 6’2”.
Speedy had 16 points scoring a Kareem Abdul Jabbar hook shot. Bolton was unstoppable inside.
Kevin Gooch had 14 points hitting 2 threes, hit big shots late, and came up with several steals late in the game.
Tharp hit 2 threes and finished with 12. Travian Hall had 5 points, Tony Six 4 on fast breaks, McFarland 2.
Austin Tull had a blocked shot. Loren Barnett and Cole Gregory played great defense. Garrett Collins played hard.
Garrett Wright and Keagan Ward were the coaches for the varsity and Bryson Kelley was the coach for the alumni.
It got crazy late in the game. It ended up 75-75 as the varsity boys rallied from behind 49-39 to tie it up. Kypton Ward and Gunnar Wright both climbed on Jaxon Bolton, it was pretty comical.
Coach Jason “Sharp Dressed Man” Bray was the ref and he made some crazy calls.
By the time you read this, varsity boys and girls will have played rival Olive and have competed in the Prue Tournament.
