Noel Nation’s story comes home to Cleveland

CLEVELAND — story that began in the classrooms, hallways, and athletic fields of Cleveland Public Schools is coming home.

“The Education of a Teacher,” an internationally recognized feature film inspired by the life and memoir of longtime Cleveland educator, coach, principal, and community leader Noel Nation, will make its Oklahoma premiere on Friday, August 15, at the Cleveland Event Center.

Doors open to the public at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

“The special community screening will celebrate the remarkable legacy of an educator whose influence helped shape generations of Cleveland students and families,” Superintendent Sol Bayouth said.”

What began as Nation's memoir evolved into an acclaimed feature film that has been featured at numerous international film festivals, including festivals associated with Cannes.

“The film has received widespread recognition from critics and audiences around the world,” Bayouth said.

Among its honors, The Education of a Teacher has been named Best Feature Film by the London Movie Awards, Florence Film Awards and the Five Continents International Film Festival.

The film was also selected by New York Movie Awards, International Gold Awards, Paris Film Awards and the Hollywood Gold Awards.

While the film has traveled the world, organizers say the Cleveland premiere is especially meaningful because it brings the story back to the community that inspired it.

'This is more than a movie premiere. It's an opportunity for our community to celebrate a man whose impact has been felt by countless students, athletes, teachers, and families throughout Cleveland. Noel Nation dedicated his life to serving others, and we're proud to welcome this film home,” Bayouth said.

The event will take place at the Cleveland Event Center on Friday, August 15.

Admission is $10 per person, and 100 percent of ticket proceeds will benefit Cleveland athletics. Concessions will be available throughout the evening.

“Community members are encouraged to invite former classmates, teammates, educators, alumni, and friends to experience the inspiring story together,” Bayouth said.
