SAND SPRINGS — The Bixby Spartans showed why they’re the state’s topranked team, and ranked No. 2 nationally, rolling past the Sandites 56-7 on Friday night in Sand Springs.
The Spartans struck quickly and never looked back, handing the Sandites a big loss to open the season. Bixby has now won five straight games dating back to last season.
CPHS quarterback Easton Webb, a senior, shouldered the offensive load, completing 20 of 38 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown. But he also threw four interceptions, finishing with a 36.6 quarterback rating as the Sandites struggled to sustain drives.
The Sandites’ lone touchdown came in the second quarter when Webb connected with senior receiver Logan Wright on a 45-yard scoring strike. Wright finished with three catches for 45 yards.
Junior wideout Dominic ForbeswasWebb’stoptarget, hauling in 10 receptions for 96 yards and adding 57 yards on kickoff returns to finish with 151 all-purpose yards. Junior Paxton Salazar added three catches for 31 yards, while sophomore Kayden Worthington and senior Gevauri Hill combined for 24 receiving yards.
The ground game was virtually nonexistent against Bixby’s defensive front. The Sandites finished with -4 rushing yards on 15 carries, with senior Chaves Williams leading with 2 yards on 8 attempts.
Defensively, senior linebacker Alex Dudley led the Sandites with 17 total tackles, including nine solos and one tackle for loss. Senior Brock O’Dell added 11 tackles, while senior Emory Smittick recorded eight tackles and a sack. Junior Joseph Farmer also had a sack and four total tackles. Senior Gage Gunn came up with the Sandites’ lone interception, returning it nine yards.
Senior punter Tanner Copeland was busy, punting seven times for 189 yards at a 27-yard average. He also added an extra point after Wright’s touchdown.
The Sandites will look to regroup next week when they travel to Owasso for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Friday.
