Sand Springs boys show flashes across busy tournament stretch

SAND SPRINGS — The Sand Springs boys golf team packed a full schedule into the past week, competing in three tournaments across the Tulsa area and showing both growth and flashes of strong play against deep fields.

The stretch began March 30 at the Union Boys Invitational at Meadowbrook Country Club, where the Sandites placed 16th with a team score of 700 in a two-round event.

Freshman Mason Kinser led the way, finishing 43rd with a 164. Kinser showed consistency across both rounds, recording birdies on holes 6 and 13 in the opening round and adding another on 18 in round two. He piled up pars throughout the tournament, including a steady stretch on holes 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 17 in the second round.

Junior Van Rice and senior Brighton Davidson each finished with scores of 177. Rice highlighted his tournament with a birdie on hole 3 in the second round and multiple pars across both days, while Davidson carded birdies on holes 2 and 14 in the first round.

Senior Leo Aary finished at 182, stringing together several pars across both rounds, while senior Conner Roulet added a 205, highlighted by birdies on holes 5 and 13 during the opening round.

The Sandites turned things around April 1 at the Sapulpa Boys Invitational at Rock Creek on Route 66, where they placed sixth with a team score of 344 in a one-day event.

Rice led the charge with an 81 to place 15th, delivering a clean round with pars on 10 holes. Davidson followed closely with an 82 for 17th, recording a birdie on hole 4 and adding nine pars. Sophomore Wyatt Hubanks contributed an 85 to place 28th, tallying pars on eight holes, while sophomore Brady Bradford added a 96.

Sand Springs closed the week April 6 at the Broken Arrow Invitational at The Club at Forest Ridge, again facing a strong field and finishing 16th with a 714 over two rounds.

Kinser once again paced the team, placing 39th with a 162. He continued his steady play with four total birdies across the tournament — including three in the second round — and a long list of pars to anchor his score.

Senior Leo Aary followed with a 175 to place 72nd, highlighted by birdies on holes 2 and 10 in the second round. Rice finished at 180, while Roulet carded a 197.

Davidson was unable to complete the tournament, playing just four holes in the opening round.

Across five rounds in eight days, the Sandites showed resilience and depth, with consistent contributions from Kinser and Rice and a strong team showing at Sapulpa highlighting the week.

Results for the Broken Arrow Invitational April 7 were not available by press time. The boys can be seen again at the Hillcrest County Club April 16 at the 6A Boys State Preview.

Sandites are ranked No. 22 in Class 6A.
