Webb shows poise, but Owasso hammers Charles Page 45-17

SAND SPRINGS – For one half Friday night, Charles Page made Owasso sweat. The Sandites trailed only 17-10 at halftime, leaning on their senior quarterback’s arm and a defense that flew to the ball. But the Rams answered with a four-touchdown second half, pulling away for a 45-17 win that left Sand Springs still searching for its first victory of 2025.

Senior quarterback Easton Webb gave the Sandites every chance early, completing 16 of 26 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns. His accuracy (61.5 percent) kept drives alive and gave his receivers room to make plays. Webb connected with six different targets, but none more than junior wideout Dominic Forbes. Forbes turned in a breakout performance with seven catches for 98 yards, averaging 14 yards per reception, including a touchdown grab that briefly silenced the home stands. Add in two kickoff returns for 78 yards, and Forbes finished the night with 176 all-purpose yards — more than Owasso’s offense allowed to any other Sandite combined.

Junior Kendell Page also chipped in, catching one of Webb’s touchdown passes and finishing with 24 total yards on offense. Page added 14 yards rushing on six carries and another 10 through the air. Senior Logan Wright contributed a 10-yard reception, sophomore K. Worthington hauled in two passes for 20 yards, and senior Gevauri Hill collected 15 yards on a pair of grabs. Even senior lineman Zach George got in the box score with a two-yard reception. In all, eight different Sandites recorded catches, proof of Webb’s steady distribution.

If the passing game produced highlights, the rushing numbers told a different story. The Sandites were bottled up from start to finish, held to minus-13 yards on 19 attempts. Webb absorbed much of that punishment, sacked multiple times and finishing with minus-24 rushing yards on eight carries. Senior Chaves Williams had minus-3 on five carries, offsetting Page’s positive yardage. It marked the second straight week Sand Springs struggled to establish balance, leaving the offense to lean almost exclusively on the air attack.

Defensively, the Sandites were nothing if not busy. Owasso’s power run game forced tackle after tackle, and Sand Springs piled up 77 stops as a team — 28 solo and 49 assists. Senior Brock O’Dell led the charge with 14 total tackles, including nine assists and one tackle for loss. Senior Emory Smittick followed with 12, while senior Alex Dudley (11) and junior Joseph Farmer (10) gave the Sandites four defenders in double figures. Junior Kaden Pope added six tackles, an interception returned for two yards, and a pass deflection. Sophomore Devin McColloch logged four tackles, including half a stop behind the line, while freshman Aiden Rhine notched four tackles with a full stop in the backfield.

Special teams kept Sand Springs competitive for stretches. Forbes’ two kick returns averaged 39 yards each, flipping field position and setting up short fields for the offense. Senior punter Tanner Copeland was steady, booting six punts for 197 yards — an average of 32.8 per kick — helping to control field position when drives stalled.

By halftime, the Sandites were within striking distance, down a single score. But Owasso’s depth and size took over after the break. The Rams outscored Sand Springs 28-7 in the final two quarters, turning a tight contest into a runaway.

The loss dropped Charles Page to 0-2, but there were bright spots to build on — Webb’s command in the pocket, Forbes’ emergence as a big-play threat, and a defense that refused to quit despite facing a short field most of the night.

The Sandites now turn their attention homeward, set to host Bishop Kelley on Sept. 19. The Comets bring a 1-1 record into Memorial Stadium, including a win over Springdale, Ark. For Sand Springs, it’s a chance to put the lessons of two road tests to work in front of a home crowd eager to see its team break through.
